According to a report from Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club have been asked to target Napoli star Victor Osimhen after facing competition from Arsenal in the race to sign his teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. However, Jurgen Klopp is understood to be focusing solely on Jude Bellingham and might not bring any other player to Anfield in the current transfer window.
Osimhen’s Impressive Numbers For Napoli This Season
Osimhen is having a great campaign at Naples as he is leading the scoreboard in Serie A being the focal point of the Italian club’s attack. The 24-year-old has made 17 appearances for Napoli this season, finding the back of the net on 13 occasions and grabbing four assists in multiple competitions.
The 23-time Nigeria international has been consistent and reliable in leading the charge up top after averaging 4.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Italian top flight. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the final third based on his pass success rate of 73.8% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool?
Osimhen remains an attacking threat inside the opponent’s half as he can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He is a good finisher in the final third and can engineer a few meaningful openings for his teammates near the opposition penalty box. Osimhen can even time his runs well when trying to get in behind the opponent’s backline to create chances in front of the goal.
At 23, he has a lot of room for improvement and he certainly has the potential to become one of the best in Europe. The Nigerian talent has proven to be one of the most prolific strikers in Serie A. Hence, it would take a lot of convincing from the Reds if they wish to lure him to Anfield.
Moreover, Liverpool are well stocked in the attacking department especially after Cody Gapko’s arrival, so as mentioned earlier, Jurgen Klopp should focus on bringing in midfield reinforcements. If they are to target Jude Bellingham in the next transfer window then bringing in any other player in the current one would impact their budget at the end of the season. Thus, it wouldn’t be wise of the Merseysiders to go in for Osimhen at the moment.
