In a recent report from The Telegraph, it was mentioned that Liverpool are exploring a deal to buy Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers. It is understood that the Reds had reached an agreement to bring him aboard last summer but the deal fell through, so the Merseyside club could make a bid next summer in order to get his signature as Wolves remain at the risk of relegation if they don’t pick themselves up.
Nunes’ Campaign With The Wolves So Far This Season
The 24-year-old is experiencing a difficult debut season at the Molineux Stadium despite having a few influential displays in the middle of the park. The attacking midfielder hasn’t found the back of the net yet but has created an assist over 16 appearances for Wolves this season across all competitions.
The Portuguese international has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.1 shots, 0.9 key passes, 0.8 dribbles and 0.9 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy while distributing the ball after completing 81.2 % of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool?
At 24, Nunes’ best days are still ahead of him and the attacking midfielder has a lot to offer on the pitch. He remains a solid tackler of the ball and excels at creating some promising opportunities for others around him in the opposition half. He can easily get out of tight situations as he has excellent control of the ball. Furthermore, he remains quick on his feet which allows him to get past defenders and create a yard of space for himself to make better plays in front of the goal.
A player of such quality would be a brilliant addition to Liverpool’s midfield department and Klopp had done well to identify him last summer. His current club is going through a huge crisis at the moment as they sit in the nineteenth position in the Premier League table which can compel him to make a move next summer as he would definitely not agree on playing in the Championship, should they go through relegation at the end of this season. So Klopp can definitely bring him to Anfield next summer if he makes a decent offer to convince Wolves.
