Liverpool faced off against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure a win in the FA Cup. The Reds made a solid start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 13th minute courtesy of Harvey Elliott’s excellent strike from long-range. The Merseyside club sat on their lead well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Jurgen Klopp’s men defended resolutely in the second 45 minutes and managed to grind out a narrow 1-0 win on the road.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the match against Wolves.
GK: Caoimhin Kelleher – 7.5/10
Kelleher commanded his penalty box well and made a couple of decent saves at the back.
CB: James Milner – 7/10
He was solid when defending inside his half but offered very little going forward.
CB: Ibrahima Konate – 8/10
The French defensive ace was there at the right place to deal with the danger when needed. He would be quite pleased with the clean sheet tonight.
CB: Joe Gomez – 7.5/10
Gomez did what was required of him on the defensive end of the field and kept the Wolves attackers quiet for most of the game.
LB: Kostas Tsimikas – 6.5/10
The Greek full-back kept things tidy at the back and did just about enough to keep Adama Traore frustrated during the 90 minutes.
CM: Naby Keita – 6.5/10
Keita worked hard at both ends of the field but lacked quality in the opponent’s half.
CM: Stefan Bajcetic – 7/10
He showed great maturity by putting in a solid display for Liverpool at the centre of the park.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 7/10
Thiago used his experience well and played some neat passes to his teammates.
RW: Harvey Elliott – 8/10
Elliott pressed the opposition well and scored a wonderful goal in the first half which was enough for the Reds to earn the victory tonight.
ST: Cody Gakpo – 6/10
He got caught offside too easily at times and produced a toothless display in front of the Wolves goal.
LW: Fabio Carvalho – 6.5/10
Carvalho had some bright moments in the game but didn’t do enough in the final third.
Substitutes:
CB: Nathaniel Phillips – 6.5/10
He made an important clearance at the back.
LW: Curtis Jones – 7/10
Jones was good on the ball and went close to scoring with a late attempt.
ST: Mohamed Salah – 6/10
The Egypt international struggled to get into the flow of the game.
CM: Fabinho – 6/10
He added some bite and steel to Klopp’s midfield.
RW: Ben Doak – 6.5/10
Doak made some good dashes in the opponent’s half.
