In a recent interview with The Blues Brothers podcast, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Liverpool have a genuine interest in Chelsea star Mason Mount. Jacobs said,
“The Liverpool interest is genuine for the summer, not for now. And because of that, Chelsea can relax a little bit towards the close of the window, because Mason Mount is not going anywhere in the next eight days and then they’ll pick it up in February when they’ve got a little bit more time and things have calmed down.”
Mount’s Recent Form At Chelsea This Season
The 24-year-old is having a tough campaign at Stamford Bridge as he has struggled to be consistent with his performances for the Blues of late. Still, Mount deserves some credit for scoring three goals and grabbing six assists in 27 matches for the West London club this season on all fronts.
The English sensation has proven his worth by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.5 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Snap Mount Up?
Mount loves a tackle and usually works hard off the ball. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. The English sensation can even make a few promising runs with the ball toward the opponent’s penalty box and can retain possession well for his side in the opponent’s half.
However, Mount has to find a way to improve his productivity in the final third if he wants to taste more success at the highest level. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so.
We can expect Mount to add more goals and creativity to Jurgen Klopp‘s attack at the Merseyside club. He could even help the Reds get back to challenging for the Premier League title in the coming seasons.
Mount ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Klopp demands from his players. Hence, Liverpool should consider snapping him up on a cut-price fee next summer when he will have just one year remaining in his contract at Stamford Bridge.
