According to Daily Mail, Liverpool are reportedly plotting a move to acquire the signature of Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of this campaign. It is understood that the Reds are looking to revamp their squad in the next transfer window and Nunes has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp despite just arriving from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
Nunes’ Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League This Season
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Molineux Stadium as he has produced a run of dominant displays for Wolves in the middle of the park. Nunes has made 20 appearances for the West Midlands club this season, finding the back of the net on one occasion and picking up an assist across all competitions.
The talented midfielder has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.8 tackles, 0.9 clearances, 1.3 shots, 0.8 dribbles and 0.9 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 82% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
The Portuguese international is under contract at the Molineux Stadium until the summer of 2027. Hence, Liverpool would have to make an appropriate bid in order to convince Wolves into selling him.
Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool At The End Of This Season?
Nunes is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and has also got the vision to engineer some decent opportunities for others around him in the final third. Nunes mainly operates as a central midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or in the number 10 position if required.
The Portuguese midfield ace can strike the ball with power and accuracy from a long range and remains adept at holding on to the ball even under pressure.
We can expect Nunes to bring some much-needed quality to Liverpool‘s midfield department and increase competition for places within the match-day squad. Wolves are currently languishing in the bottom half of the league table, so the Reds can definitely find a way to land him on a cut-price deal next summer if they manage to convince the Portuguese midfielder. So Klopp should do well to bring him aboard in the next transfer window if the Merseysiders are willing to revamp the squad.
