In a recent report, InterLive.it mentioned that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. It is understood that the Italian club are compelled to enter talks with the Reds this month with the Slovak international’s contract set to run out at the end of this campaign.
Skriniar’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
Skriniar is having a decent campaign at San Siro as he has been responsible for putting in a series of dominant performances for Inter on the defensive end of the field. The 27-year-old has been involved in 22 matches for the Italian club this season, picking up a couple of yellow cards in the process on all fronts.
The Slovak defensive ace has proven himself to be a reliable performer at the heart of Inter’s defence based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 91.9% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Skriniar is currently on an expiring contract at the Milan club, so it makes sense for Liverpool to engineer a cut-price move to sign him during this January transfer window.
What Will Skriniar Bring To Liverpool?
Skriniar is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
Standing at 1.88m, the Slovak sensation can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back. He is vastly experienced at the highest level and would be a good signing for Liverpool to pursue this month.
We can expect Skriniar to inject more bite and steel into Jurgen Klopp‘s defensive department at Anfield. He could serve as a decent replacement for Virgil Van Dijk, who is set for a spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, at the Merseyside club.
At 27, Skriniar is about to enter his prime and would no doubt bring more quality to Klopp’s match-day squad at Liverpool. Thus, the Reds would be wise to orchestrate a move to secure the services of the Slovak central defender before the end of this winter transfer window.
