In a recent interview with talkSPORT, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino admitted his mistake over his shocking verdict on Manchester United midfielder Casemiro. Cascarino said,
“Midfield, Casemiro has won the lot.
“I thought it was a lot of money, I’ll be honest on this and say I got it wrong.
“I know he’s a really good player, he doesn’t play for Real Madrid for that amount of time and do so well and win so much if he’s not a good player
“But, and there is a big but, He’s completely changed the midfield because [Christian] Eriksen gets freed up and with that [Bruno] Fernandes is back to the Fernandes that was playing brilliantly when he first joined.
“You can see a massive improvement in the team so you’ve got to hold your hands up and say how well the manager has done.
“Man United are a side brimming with confidence and Rashford is on top of his game, it’s an incredible run of matches and performances too.”
Casemiro’s Impressive Form In English Football
Casemiro is having a solid campaign at the Mancunian club as he has produced a run of consistent displays at the heart of Erik ten Hag‘s midfield. The 30-year-old has made 23 appearances for the Red Devils this season, finding the back of the net on two occasions and securing two assists in the process across all fronts.
The Brazilian talent has anchored the midfield with a lot of conviction based on his average of 3.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 1.1 shots and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80.5% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Cascarino Admits His Mistake Over His Verdict On Casemiro: What Does The Future Hold For Him At Manchester United?
Casemiro is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed and has got the vision to engineer some meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third.
The experienced Brazilian can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and knows what it takes to taste success at the highest level.
At the moment, Casemiro is operating at a high level and has his focus firmly fixed on helping the Red Devils secure a top-four place in the Premier League this season.
Hence, Tony Cascarino is justified to admit his mistake over his verdict on Casemiro. The Brazil international is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2026. Hence, we can expect him to help the Mancunian giants challenge for some major honours over the next few years as long as the player continues to play at the top of his game.
