In a recent report, Foot Mercato claimed that Everton are showing interest in Olympique Lyonnais forward Moussa Dembele. It has been claimed that the Toffees are eyeing a move to secure the services of the French striker.
Dembele’s Unimpressive Numbers In French Football
Dembele has endured a frustrating campaign at Lyon as he has struggled to be consistent with his performances as the focal point of their attack. The 26-year-old has banged in two goals and secured one assist in 15 matches for the French club this season on all fronts.
The France Under-21 international has given a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 1.4 shots, 0.1 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 76.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract with the French club is set to expire at the end of this season. Hence, it makes a lot of sense for Everton to arrange a cut-price move for him before the end of this month.
What Will Dembele Bring To Everton?
Dembele has got the pace to make a few promising runs with the ball in the final third. He excels at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal but needs to work on improving his link-up play on the attacking end of the pitch.
The French forward is struggling to perform at his best at the Groupama Stadium this season but could prove to be a good acquisition for Everton to pull off during this winter transfer period.
We can expect Dembele to bring more pace and goals to the Merseyside club‘s attack. He is good enough to rival Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park. At 26, Dembele is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent option for Everton to pursue this month.
Therefore, the Toffees should try everything they can to lure the French sensation to Merseyside before the end of this ongoing transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether Dembele has what it takes to make a smooth transition to life in England. Still, Everton are currently struggling to find consistency in the Premier League and could benefit from recruiting the Lyon attacker as he could help them get out of the relegation zone in the second half of this campaign.
