In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo stated that Chelsea are facing competition for Sporting CP star Pedro Porro. It has been claimed that the Blues have locked horns with Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the Spanish talent.
Porro’s Recent Form At The Estádio José Alvalade
The 23-year-old has experienced a good campaign at Sporting as he has put in a string of promising performances on the right side of their defence. Porro has featured in 22 matches for the Portuguese club this season, netting two goals and picking up ten assists in multiple competitions.
The Spanish sensation has proven himself to be a capable presence on the right wing and deserves credit for averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 2.5 shots, 2.2 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Liga Portugal football. However, he needs to be more careful with his ball distribution after making 74.9% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
Porro is under contract at the Portuguese club until the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for the West London club to get him on board this winter.
Should Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Snap Porro Up?
Porro can do a little bit of everything on the right flank as he can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and can also make a few driving runs with the ball. The Spanish talent can create a few decent chances for his teammates and can strike the ball with venom and precision from long range. He mainly functions as a right-back but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.
Porro has what it takes to be a success story at Chelsea as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in English football. He will no doubt add more quality to Graham Potter‘s squad and could help the Blues challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League over the next few seasons. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the English capital.
At 23, the future is quite promising for Porro if he can continue to improve his all-around game with each season. Thus, the West London club should focus on trying everything they can to snap the Spanish wide player up before the end of this winter transfer window.
