In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Barcelona are weighing up a move to land Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino. It has been claimed that the Catalan giants are eyeing a move to sign the Brazilian forward next summer when his current contract is set to run out at Anfield.
Firmino’s Impressive Run Of Form In English Football
Firmino was having a decent campaign at the Merseyside club before he got injured. He has been responsible for putting in a run of impressive displays as the focal point of Liverpool’s attack. The 31-year-old has banged in nine goals and grabbed four assists in 21 matches for the Reds this season across all fronts.
The veteran forward has been a consistent performer in the final third as he is averaging 2.5 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been accurate when distributing possession deep inside the opponent’s goal based on his pass success rate of 79.6% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Firmino is under contract at Anfield until the end of this season. Hence, Barca could try their luck by offering him a chance to shine at the Nou Camp.
Is Firmino The Right Fit For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Firmino excels at creating space for himself to get a few strikes at goal. He has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third and can be a good finisher in front of goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
The Brazilian striker is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty box. He has got a wealth of experience under his belt and will be a perfect fit for Barcelona boss Xavi’s brand of football at the Nou Camp.
We can expect Firmino to add plenty of firepower to Barca‘s frontline. He could even help Barcelona to compete for some major honours in the coming seasons. At 31, he has his best years behind him, so he will only be a good short-term signing for the Catalan club to pursue next year.
Firmino is good enough to lead the line for Barca on his own or play alongside Robert Lewandowski up top. Thus, it is logical for the Catalan club to offer the Brazil international a contract when his Liverpool deal runs out at the end of this campaign.
