In a recent report, Goal stated that Barcelona have launched a €6m offer for Los Angeles Galaxy youngster Julian Araujo as they look to land him on deadline day. It is believed that the Catalan giants are eyeing a late move for the Mexican sensation as they look to strengthen their squad for the future.
Araujo’s Impressive Rise In The Major League Soccer
Araujo has caught the eye with his performances in Los Angeles so far. The 21-year-old has already established himself as a key performer in LA Galaxy’s first XI and has performed to score two goals and grab 14 assists in 109 appearances for them thus far.
The Mexican talent has been a consistent performer for the American club down the right flank as he is averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 2.3 clearances and 1.1 key passes per 90 minutes in the Major League Soccer. He has even accurate when distributing possession from the right wing based on his pass success rate of 85.3% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Araujo is under contract at the MLS club until the end of 2025. Thus, Barcelona will find it difficult to get a deal over the line for him this late in this January transfer window.
Barcelona Launch A Move For Araujo: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Araujo is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can create some decent chances for his teammates from the right flank.
However, the Mexican full-back has still got a lot to learn as a footballer. However, Barcelona boss Xavi is well-equipped to oversee his development and get the best out of him at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons.
Araujo is already good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the Catalan club and would be a good signing for Xavi in the long run. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spanish football and handle the high expectations surrounding his arrival at a top club like Barcelona.
Still, there is no doubt that Araujo is a prospect to watch out for in the future. Thus, Barca will do well to bring him on board before the transfer window slams shut later tonight.
