In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona could land Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves next summer. It is believed that the Catalan club are in a good position to land the Portugal international at the end of this season.
Neves’ Decent Run Of Form In English Football This Season
Neves is having a solid campaign at the Molieneux Stadium depite Wolves’ struggles to be consistent in the Premier League. The Portugal international has registered four goals in 25 matches for the West Midlands club this season across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a consistent performer for Wolves at the centre of the park based on his average of 2.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.4 clearances, 2.0 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 83.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Molieneux is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, Barca have got a good shot at recruiting him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Get Neves On Board Next Summer?
Neves is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can create some decent chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half. Neves is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if his manager asks him to do so.
The Portuguese talent has got a good passing range and can strike the ball with a lot of venom and accuracy from long range. Hence, he will be a great fit for Barcelona’s style of play at the Nou Camp if Xavi can devise a way to secure his services later this year.
We can expect Neves to bring more quality to Barca‘s midfield department and serve as an ideal long-term successor to Sergio Busquets who is currently in the final stages of his career at the Catalan club.
Neves knows what it takes to be consistent at the highest level and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Nou Camp. Therefore, Xavi should consider trying everything in his power to get him on board during the summer transfer window.
