In a recent interview with El Chiringuito TV, journalist Jose Alvarez stated that Barcelona are open to entertaining offers for Raphinha. It is believed that the Brazilian winger is one of the players Barca head coach Xavi is willing to cash in on this month.
Raphinha’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football
Raphinha has struggled to be consistent with his performances at the Nou Camp this season but has been responsible for putting in some eye-catching displays on the right side of Xavi’s attack. The 26-year-old has banged in two goals and grabbed two assists in 15 league appearances for the Catalan club so far across all fronts.
The gifted talent has been a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 80.4% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Raphinha has failed to establish himself as a regular member of Xavi’s first XI. Thus, a change of scenery could be a good move for the player at this stage of his playing career.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Cut Raphinha Loose?
Raphinha has got the pace to get in behind the opponent’s defence and usually comes alive when left isolated in a 1v1 foot chase with the opposition full-backs. He has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third. The Brazilian wing wizard can even strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. He is primarily a right-sided winger but can also operate as a wide player on the left flank or play as a centre-forward if his manager tells him to do so.
Raphina remains an important member of Xavi‘s match-day squad. However, he has struggled to be consistent in terms of his offensive contributions this season. Maybe the Catalan club should think about cutting him loose this month if they want to lower their wage bill.
However, Xavi should only consider cashing in on Raphinha if he can get a suitable fee for the player during this winter transfer period. At 26, he has got plenty of football left in him to play at his best. With all things considered, Barca would be wise to use the money generated from Raphinha’s potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad.
