In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that Aston Villa are eyeing a January move for Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeu. It has been claimed that the Villans are showing interest in recruiting the Spanish striker.
Deulofeu’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
Deulofeu has proven himself to be a valuable presence in Udinese’s first XI this season after producing a run of promising displays for them in the final third. The 28-year-old has banged in three goals and grabbed seven assists in 17 matches for the Italian club during this campaign across all fronts.
The four-time Spain international has given a good account of himself on the attacking end of the field based on his average of 2.9 shots, 3.1 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80.2% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Udinese is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, it is only logical for the Villans to make an attempt to sign him on the cheap this January or at the end of this campaign.
What Will Deulofeu Add To Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery’s Team?
Deulofeu can make some decent runs with the ball in the opponent’s half and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. Deulofeu is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if needed.
The Spanish talent can create space for himself to get some strikes in at goal and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. Hence, he will be a good fit for Aston Villa’s brand of football.
We can expect Deulofeu to add more firepower to Unai Emery‘s attack at the West Midlands club. He could even help the Villans push for a European spot in the Premier League over the next few years. The Spaniard has got prior experience in English football which makes him a decent option for Aston Villa to consider during this January transfer period.
At 28, Deulofeu is playing some of the best football of his playing career at the moment. Hence, he is well-equipped to make an instant impact at Villa Park as long as he can maintain his good form in England.
