In a recent report, The Daily Mail (subscription required) stated that West Ham United are keeping a keen eye on Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are hoping to acquire the services of the Morocco international next year.
Ounahi’s Impressive Run Of Form In French Football This Season
Ounahi is having a solid campaign at Angers as he has put in a run of dominant displays at the heart of their midfield. The Casablanca-born talent has participated in 14 matches for the French club this season but is yet to score or assist a goal in various competitions.
The 22-year-old has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.6 shots, 1.2 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 88.6% of his attempted passes in the French top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Ounahi is under contract at Angers until the summer of 2026. Thus, it will take a big fee for West Ham to stand a chance of landing him next year.
Is Ounahi The Right Fit For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Ounahi is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He can create space for himself to get some shots in at goal and can strike the ball with power from long range. The Morocco international can create some decent plays for his teammates and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder if needed.
We can expect Ounahi to inject more bite and steel into David Moyes‘ midfield at the London Stadium if West Ham can find a way to get him on board next year. At 22, the future is quite bright for the Angers talent as long as he continues to improve his overall game in the future.
Ounahi could go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek at the East London club over the next few seasons. With all things considered, the Morocco sensation would be a decent fit for the Hammers and could even help them challenge for a top-six in the Premier League if he can make a smooth transition to life in the English capital.
