In a recent print edition, Correio da Manhã claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eager to launch a move for Sporting CP full-back Pedro Porro. It has been revealed that Spurs are eyeing a move for the Spanish talent as they look to strengthen their squad next year.
Porro’s Impressive Run Of Form In Liga Portugal
Porro is having a decent campaign in Portuguese football as he has been responsible for putting in a handful of impressive performances for Sporting down the right flank. The 23-year-old has done well to pick up eight assists in 18 matches for the Portuguese club this season on all fronts.
The Don Benito-born talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 2.8 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Liga Portugal. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 76.6% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Porro is under contract at Sporting until the summer of 2025. Hence, Spurs will have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting the Spanish sensation this January or at the end of this campaign.
Is Porro A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
Porro is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can make a few driving runs with the ball on the right flank. The Spanish sensation can shoot the ball relatively well from long range and is proficient at creating some decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
Recruiting someone of Porro’s skillset will be an excellent move by Spurs as he is good enough to earn a regular starting spot in Antonio Conte‘s first XI. He could even help Tottenham compete for a top-four spot in the Premier League over the next few years.
At 23, Porro has got a bright future ahead of him and would be a brilliant option for the North London club to consider in 2023. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting him, so Conte should focus on getting a deal done for him soon.
