Recent reports from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato revealed that Manchester United are keen on signing Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos in the upcoming transfer window as Erik Ten Hag looks set to add to his attacking options.
‘Erik ten Hag has chosen the striker for the future: he wants to bring Goncalo Ramos, the 21-year-old Benfica striker, to Manchester United.’ – the report read.
The 21-year-old’s current contract with the Eagles runs until the summer of 2026, so the Primeira Liga club do not wish to sell him for any less than his €120 million release clause.
A Good Fit For The Red Devils?
Having come through the ranks at Benfica itself, Goncalo Ramos made his first-team debut on 21 July 2020, with Benfica as an 85th-minute substitute in a 4-0 win against Desportivo das Aves in the Primeira Liga, netting a brace in eight minutes. Over the course of the past two years, he has featured 81 times for the Eagles, scoring twenty-nine goals and assisting ten more across all competitions.
Even this season, the 21-year-old has scored thirteen goals in just 21 appearances across all competitions. Besides, he has managed to put up some impressive numbers on the board – averaging 3.3 shots and 0.6 key passes per ninety minutes in the Portuguese top-flight. With an average WhoScored rating of 7.33, he is one of the most promising talents in Europe.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely departure has left Manchester United in a tight situation as they are looking to recruit a striker in January. The Red Devils are in dire need of reinforcements in the striker’s department – and Ramos fits the bill perfectly. Aged 21, he has plenty of time on his side and is already one of Europe’s most exciting strikers. Hence, the board should go all out for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
