In a recent interview with Football Insider, Gabriel Agbonlahor tipped Manchester City to offer Bernardo Silva a contract extension. Agbonlahor said,
“I think with Pep committing his future, he likes Bernardo Silva and plays him most games, it makes sense for Bernardo Silva to commit as well.
“He’s perfect for that team and it would be an outstanding deal to get him signed onto a new deal.”
Silva’s Decent Numbers At Manchester This Season
Silva is having another impressive season at the Etihad Stadium as he has been responsible for producing some influential displays for Man City in the final third. The Portugal international has made 22 appearances for the Mancunian outfit this season, finding the back of the net on two occasions and picking up five assists across various competitions.
The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer in the opposition half based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.0 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when linking up play on the attacking end of the field, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 89.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Man City Tipped To Offer Silva A Contract Extension: Good Move For Both Parties?
Silva is an excellent dribbler with the ball and can make some clever runs towards the opponent’s penalty box. He can create some decent chances for his teammates in the final third and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Portuguese winger is currently playing at the top of his game and remains one of the first names in Pep Guardiola‘s teamsheet at the Etihad Stadium. He is primarily a right-sided winger but can also play in the number ten position or as a box-to-box midfielder if his manager tells him to do so.
Silva’s current contract at Man City is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it makes sense for the Mancunian outfit to offer the Portuguese wide player a new deal. He is playing some of his best football and could help Guardiola’s side challenge for even more top honours in the coming seasons.
At 28, Silva has still got plenty of football left in his locker. Therefore, Man City should listen to Agbonlahor’s advice by tieing the gifted wing wizard down to a new contract as he is an irreplaceable member of their squad.
