If a report from the Daily Mirror is believed to be true, Liverpool are set to rival Everton and Leeds United for the rising Birmingham City sensation George Hall. While it remains unclear whether an offer will be made in the upcoming January window, Blues boss John Eustace is keen on retaining his services as a ‘top priority’.
“We’re delighted with his progress. He’s a top young player. But all I want to do is to keep on developing George in the right way, which I think we have done so far.”
Eustace told BBC Radio WM amid the speculations over Hall’s future.
The 18-year-old Englishman is another highly-rated midfield prodigy who has cemented his place in the senior squad after progressing through the club’s academy ranks. He only made his first-team debut earlier this year and has so far appeared 20 times for the Championship side.
Meanwhile, Hall’s contract at St Andrew’s will expire in the summer of 2024 and the Premier League clubs are considering an early swoop before his valuation gets higher. Leeds have promoted an array of young players since their Premier League promotion, also the project at Everton could fascinate the teenager considering the Toffees’ transition under Frank Lampard. Having said that, an offer from Liverpool would be too tempting to turn down.
Why Liverpool Should Sign The Birmingham Talent
Despite having ample options in the centre of the pitch, the Reds are undergoing a serious crisis due to the form and fitness woes of key individuals. Fabinho has struggled so far as a ‘number 6’, whereas the persistent injury problems refrained Naby Keita from finding his feet in all these years. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be a free agent next summer and the Merseysiders are unlikely to offer him a contract extension. James Milner is no more a first-team regular at the age of 37, also the club must find long-term successors for both Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson who are already in their 30s.
Jurgen Klopp has promoted the likes of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones to fix the midfield conundrum. It’s been a stop-start spell for Jones, but the emergence of Elliott is encouraging as he is now featuring regularly in the middle of the park. Liverpool are aiming for high-profile reinforcements with Jude Bellingham, Sofyan Amrabat and Enzo Fernández among rumoured targets, but the signing of Hall could prove to be ‘value for money’ in the coming days.
