According to Leeds Live, Pascal Striujk has reportedly signed a contract extension at Elland Road as fresh terms with the Whites will now see his contract expire in 2027. The Netherlands defender was in contention for representing his nation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup but was later dropped by Loius van Gaal; although he remains a mainstay for Jesse Marsch going forward into this season.
Struijk’s Decent Form At Leeds United This Season
Pascal Struijk is having a solid campaign at Elland Road as he has managed to put in a series of dominant displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 23-year-old has made 13 appearances this season finding the back of the net on one occasion and creating an assist in the English first division.
The Dutch sensation has been a rock at the back and deserves a lot of credit for averaging 3.2 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 2.0 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 79.5% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Good Move From Jesse Marsch In Extending His Contract?
Struijk is a solid defender who usually remains calm under pressure and can make some timely interceptions to win the ball back for his team. He is often quick to spot the danger and can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition. The Dutch defender doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.90m, he has got the strength to dominate the opposition in the air and can even chip in by scoring the odd goal from time to time.
Since breaking into the first team in 2018 he was given further opportunities from Marcelo Bielsa and is now a regular starter under Jesse Marsch. At 23, he has got enough room to improve his skills and play at a high level for several years in the foreseeable future. So Marsch has done well to tie him down until 2027 looking into the long-term future of the club.
