Netherlands will clash heads with the USA in the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday, hoping to pick up a positive result on matchday 3 of the World Cup campaign. The Dutchmen have already secured their place in the knockouts after recording a solid 2-0 victory over Qatar in their last outing.
Louis van Gaal will probably opt for a 4-3-3 formation with a few tweaks from the last game as Steven Bergwijn gets the chance to impress in the left wing while Memphis Depay leads the line.
4-3-3 Netherlands Predicted Lineup Vs USA
Defence
Remko Pasveer is expected to start between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The backup shot-stopper would look to perform well and secure a clean sheet this weekend. Virgil van Dijk will form the centre-half partnership with Mathijs de Ligt at the heart of Netherlands’ backline.
Tyrell Malacia will get a chance to start at the left-back position, whereas Jeremie Frimpong could fill in on the other flank as the right-back. The full-backs will be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.
Nathan Ake and Jurrien Timber will take a spot on the bench and provide cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Frenkie de Jong might start in the holding midfield position and could be assigned with more of a defensive role to shield his side’s back-four. Steven Berghuis will slot into the central midfield role alongside Xavi Simons; all of them will be determined to set up some clear-cut goal-scoring chances for the frontmen.
Teun Koopmeiners will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the second half of the contest if needed.
Attack
Cody Gakpo and Steven Bergwijn will take up the wing positions, causing menace for the USA down the right and left flanks respectively.
Memphis Depay is expected to slot in as the centre forward in the upcoming fixture. The Barca forward’s adept movement in front of the goal could cause a lot of trouble for the American defence.
Wout Weghorst could be brought off the bench as an impact substitute in the second forty-five minutes of the match.
