In a recent report from Football.London, it was mentioned that Chelsea have the chance to make a last-minute offer for Cristiano Ronaldo after reports emerged that the Portugal captain is in talks with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. However, several media outlets have gone forth to deny the fact that he has signed an offer with the Saudi Arabian side and he’s currently only focused on the 2022 FIFA World Cup which gives the Blues a little hope for acquiring him in January.
Ronaldo’s Frustrating Campaign With Manchester United This Season
Ronaldo had a slow start at Old Trafford this season but still managed to produce some solid displays being the focal point of United’s attack on a few occasions. He scored 3 goals and produced two assists over 16 appearances where he mostly came off the bench before parting ways with the Red Devils recently.
The sensational superstar is showing no signs of stopping in his tracks as he has averaged 2.5 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League, and 5.2 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 mins in the Europa League. He has also been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 76.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Will Potter Bring Him To Chelsea?
Despite Ronaldo performing at his best, the club did not achieve their goals and found themselves struggling to secure a top-four finish at the end of the previous campaign. Being one of the world’s best footballers it is only natural for him to compete at a high level and with Champions League football out of question, staying at Old Trafford was still a difficult choice for him to make. However, after the infamous interview with Piers Morgan came to light it was evident that Ronaldo was frustrated being at United.
At 37, he hasn’t failed to impress the football world with the way he’s performing, the Portuguese striker was the top scorer at Old Trafford last season and he is certainly very reliable in the final third. He desires to play at the top for a couple of years and Graham Potter is in a position to offer him that. Chelsea’s goal-scoring issues would resolve with his arrival at Stamford Bridge and he would bring a lot of experience into the locker room which could benefit the club.
The Blues are in dire need of an attacking threat down the middle even after the addition of Pierre Emerick Aubemyang and Raheem Sterling in the attacking department. Ronaldo fits the bill perfectly and he’s also available on a free transfer. Chelsea were heavily linked to CR7 earlier this summer but Tuchel did not make any admissions for a deal since he believed that the Portuguese international did not fit the profile but new boss Graham Potter might have contrary opinions.
