In a recent report, Sport stated that Chelsea are facing competition from Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund talent Youssoufa Moukoko. It has been claimed that the Blues are eager to bring the German striker to Stamford Bridge next year.
Moukoko’s Good Form At Signal Iduna Park This Season
Moukoko is having a decent season at the German club as he has been responsible for putting in some productive displays for them on the attacking end of the field. The Yaounde-born sensation has been involved in 22 matches for Dortmund during this campaign, scoring six times and grabbing six assists across various competitions.
The 18-year-old has been a decent performer in the final third and deserves credit for averaging 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. However, he needs to improve his link-up play in the opponent’s half after completing 71.2% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
The talented teenager has enjoyed a meteoric rise at Dortmund but is under contract at Signal Iduna Park until the end of this campaign. Thus, Chelsea could potentially land him on the cheap this January or on a free transfer next summer.
Should Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Snap Moukoko Up?
Moukoko can create space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He is a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. Moukoko mainly functions as a centre-forward but can also play alongside someone in the final third.
The German talent can create the odd chance for others around him and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. Moukoko’s quality and potential make him a worthy target for the Blues to pursue in 2023.
We can expect Moukoko to bring some firepower to Chelsea‘s attack and increase competition for places within Graham Potter‘s match-day squad as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
At 18, Moukoko has got a bright future ahead of him and could be nurtured into a world-class attacker in the coming seasons. Thus, the West London club should try everything they can to snap the German whizkid up during the winter transfer window or at the end of this season. Furthermore, Moukoko could even help Chelsea compete for a lot of top honours over the next decade which makes him a great, value-for-money option for the Blues to consider for the long run.
