In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Simon Phillips revealed that Chelsea are eager to recruit AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer. Phillips said,
“Chelsea have got other options. One I reported today is Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan.
“He has been sounded out as an option down to his contract situation. He is another one whose deal runs out in 2024 and, at the moment, he’s not going to sign an extension with AC Milan.
“Negotiations are ongoing, but he’s asking for too much more than what the club are prepared to pay at the moment.”
Bennacer’s Impressive Form At San Siro
Bennacer is having a solid season at the Milan club as he has been responsible for putting in a run of dominant displays for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net once and grabbed one assist in 23 matches for AC Milan during this campaign in multiple competitions.
The Algerian sensation has been a consistent performer in the middle of the field based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 2.0 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball after completing 88.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
Is Bennacer A Good Fit For Chelsea Boss Graham Potter?
Bennacer can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition in midfield. He can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. The Algerian talent has got the vision to set up a few clear-cut chances in the final third and can complete some dangerous dribbles from midfield.
At the moment, Bennacer is playing some of the best football of his career. He will no doubt bring a lot of quality to Graham Potter’s midfield department at Stamford Bridge.
At 25, Bennacer has got his best years ahead of him and would be a good fix to Chelsea‘s recent midfield problems. He could even help the Blues challenge for some top honours once again in the coming seasons.
With all things considered, Bennacer will be a decent fit for the West London giants next year as he has what it takes to help them secure a top-four finish in the Premier League. However, only time will tell whether the Algerian midfield ace can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
