In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Barcelona have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro. It has been mentioned that the Catalan outfit are hoping to sign the Portuguese talent on a free transfer next year.
Guerreiro’s Impressive Run Of Form In German Football
Guerreiro is having a decent campaign at Signal Iduna Park after producing a run of impressive performances for his current employers on the left flank. The 28-year-old has scored three times and picked up three assists in 18 matches for the German club this season across multiple competitions.
The France-born talent has caught the eye at times by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the left flank, based on his pass success rate of 85.3% in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club is set to run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, it makes sense for Barca to offer him a chance to shine at the Nou Camp as he is good enough to ensure a regular spot in Xavi’s first XI.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Guerreiro Up Next Summer?
Guerreiro is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team on the left wing. He usually clears the danger when needed and has got the vision to create some decent plays for his teammates in the final third. Guerreiro is primarily a left-back but can also play as a left-sided wide player if his manager tells him to do so.
The Portuguese talent is a decent dribbler with the ball and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Someone with Guerreiro’s skillset will be a great addition to Barca‘s match-day squad next summer.
The Portuguese left-back could serve as a decent successor to Jordi Alba at the Catalan club. Hence, Barcelona head coach Xavi would be wise to go all out to snap Guerreiro up at the end of this season.
We can expect Guerreiro to add more energy and dynamism to Barca’s backline. Plus, he is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot with Alejandro Balde at the Catalan club. At 28, he is enjoying the best years of his playing career and could help Xavi’s side challenge for some top honours over the next few years.
