In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona could sign Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard for just €15m. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club could potentially bring the French talent to the Nou Camp on the cheap next year.
Pavard’s Decent Run Of Form In German Football This Season
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a good run of form at the Allianz Arena as he has produced a series of impressive displays on the right side of Bayern’s defence. Pavard has found the back of the net on four occasions in 21 matches for the Bavarian outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The Maubeuge-born sensation has given a good account of himself at both ends of the field based on his average of 2.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.2 clearances, 1.1 shots and 0.9 key passes per game in Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 89.1% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Pavard is under contract at Bayern until the summer of 2024. Thus, it makes sense for Barca to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
What Will Pavard Add To Barcelona Head Coach Xavi’s Team?
Pavard is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and can even strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The French sensation can even make a few driving runs with the ball down the right flank. He is primarily a right-back but can also serve as a central defender if his manager tells him to do so.
We can expect him to secure a starting spot at the Nou Camp if Xavi can find a way to get him on board in 2023. Pavard will add more quality and depth to Barcelona‘s defensive department and increase competition for places within their match-day squad. He has got plenty of experience at the highest level and is well-equipped to play a key role in Xavi‘s first XI.
At 26, Pavard is about to enter his prime and could make an immediate impact at the Catalan club. Therefore, Xavi should focus on getting a deal done for the France international at the end of this campaign as he could help Barca challenge for some top honours once again over the next few years.
