In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Barcelona are keeping a keen eye on Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are monitoring the progress of the Spain international ahead of a potential move next year.
Olmo’s Decent Numbers In German Football
Olmo has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Red Bull Arena as he has put in a series of impressive performances for Leipzig on the attacking end of the field. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net four times and grabbed five assists in 22 matches for the German club this season across all fronts.
The Terrassa-born sensation has given a good account of himself in the final third and has done well to average 1.6 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 79.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at RB Leipzig is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Therefore, Barca would be wise to engineer a cut-price move for him this January or at the end of this campaign.
Should Barcelona Head Coach Xavi Get Olmo On Board Next Year?
Olmo has got the knack for creating some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He can make some dangerous runs with the ball toward the opponent’s penalty box and can strike the ball with venom and precision from long range. The Spaniard has performed well to contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals for RB Leipzig in the final third.
We can expect Olmo to inject more goals and creativity into Xavi’s frontline at the Nou Camp. He will even increase competition for places within Barcelona’s match-day squad.
However, it remains to be seen whether Olmo can maintain his good form in La Liga. Still, the Spanish player already knows the Catalan club well from his time as a youth player at the La Masia academy. Hence, he won’t take much time to settle into life at the Nou Camp if Xavi decides to move in for him in 2023.
Olmo has what it takes to help Barca challenge for some major honours once again in the coming seasons. Therefore, Xavi would be wise to get him on board during the January transfer window or next summer.
