In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are keen on recruiting Inter Milan talent Denzel Dumfries. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are showing interest in signing the Dutch sensation next year.
Dumfries’ Impressive Season In Serie A So Far
The 26-year-old is enjoying a decent campaign for Inter after he produced a handful of promising performances on the right flank. Dumfries has registered five goals and picked up six assists in 29 appearances for the Italian club this season across multiple competitions.
The Netherlands international has proven his worth as a reliable presence on the right wing by averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.3 shots and 1.1 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball with conviction after completing 78.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Dumfries’ current contract at the Dutch club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Inter are in no immediate need to sell him which could make it difficult for the Catalan outfit to land him next year.
Should Barcelona Head Coach Xavi Get Dumfries On Board Next Year?
Dumfries can keep things solid at the back when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He can engineer some inviting chances for others around him from the right flank and can strike the ball with venom from long range. However, he needs to find a way to improve his productivity even more on the attacking end of the field.
The Dutch sensation is currently playing some of his best football after helping his country reach the quarterfinal stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup where they were recently knocked out by Argentina on penalties.
We can expect Dumfries to enhance the quality of Xavi’s starting XI at the Nou Camp. He could even help the Catalan outfit challenge for some top honours over the next few seasons. Hence, the Barcelona head coach should think about trying everything in his power to get Dumfries on board this winter or at the end of this campaign.
The Dutch talent is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Catalan club and would definitely be an upgrade over Sergino Dest who has failed to prove his worth for Barca in recent seasons. At 26, Dumfries has his best years ahead of him and would be an excellent acquisition for the Catalan club next year.
