In a recent report from Birmingham Live, it was mentioned that Aston Villa continue to be linked with Joao Felix of Atletico Madrid in an attempt to bolster their attacking options. Unai Emery’s side are back in competitive action in less than two weeks and they are in dire need of bringing in decent reinforcements for the attacking department. It is understood that the Portuguese forward has struggled for game time at Wanda Metropolitano and remains keen on an exit but it is yet to be seen where he heads off to with several clubs interested in his services.
Felix’s Campaign With Atletico Madrid This Season
Joao Felix has produced some influential displays in the final third despite coming off the bench in most of his appearances. He has featured in 17 matches for the Spanish outfit this season, finding the back of the net thrice and creating three assists across all fronts.
The Viseu-born talent has had fewer minutes in comparison to his previous campaign which explains why he is only averaging 1.6 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in La Liga. He also has to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 75.8% in the top tier of Spanish top flight (stats via whoscored).
Will Unai Emery Bring Him To Aston Villa In January?
Felix has made his presence felt in the attacking third as he has performed well for Portugal in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He excels at creating a yard of space for himself using his pace and quickness. Furthermore, the Atletico forward has proven to be a prolific finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and doesn’t mind taking a shot at the goal from a distance.
The Portuguese international is primarily a centre-forward but remains versatile enough to fill in the left-wing position or play as an advanced attacking midfielder. So we could see him bringing more competition into the attacking department as he could add more firepower to the frontline at Villa Park.
Joao Felix has the potential to become one of the best in Europe as he remains an attacking threat in the final third. The 23-year-old will definitely grow over the next years if given enough play time for his development. So Unai Emery could offer him first-team football and wrap up a deal to make use of the attacking prowess he will bring to the Villans should he decide to join them in January
