In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Arsenal are locked in a three-way battle for ex-Real Madrid playmaker Isco. It is believed that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Juventus in pursuit of the Spanish sensation.
Isco’s Up And Down Season At Sevilla
Isco experienced an inconsistent campaign at his last club, Sevilla where he struggled to be productive in the final third. The 30-year-old has registered one goal and grabbed three assists in 19 matches for the Andalusian outfit this season in various competitions.
The Spanish sensation deserves some credit for averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 86.8% in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Isco is currently a free agent after being released by Sevilla recently. Hence, Arsenal will be able to sign him for free if they can agree on personal terms with the player next year.
Should Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta Snap Isco Up?
Isco is a decent playmaker in the final third and can make some promising runs with the ball toward the opposition penalty box. He can even strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range but needs to improve his productivity in the opponent’s half. Isco mainly operates in the number ten position but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
The Spanish sensation is currently facing an uncertain future after being released by Sevilla. However, Arsenal could be an ideal destination for the player if he wants to get his career back on track.
Isco’s skillset will fit in well with Mikel Arteta‘s playing style at the Emirates Stadium. Hence, the North London club would be wise to snap him up next month as he could help them compete across all competitions and sustain their Premier League title charge in the coming months.
At 30, Isco might still have a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Hence, he would serve as a good, short-term option for the Gunners to consider in 2023. However, it remains to be seen whether Isco can handle the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Arteta decides to offer him a chance to shine in the English capital.
