In a recent report, MilanLive.it claimed that West Ham United are determined to land Spezia Calcio defender Jakub Kiwior. It has been mentioned that the Hammers have begun talks to secure the services of the Polish centre-back.
Kiwior’s Decent Run Of Form This Season
The 22-year-old is having an impressive season with Spezia after he produced a few solid performances for them at the back. Kiwior has participated in 23 matches for both his club and country during this campaign on all fronts.
The Polish talent has been a dominant presence on the defensive third of the pitch based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 3.7 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from inside his half as he has made 85.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Kiwior is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2025. Hence, the Hammers will have to launch a good offer if they want to land the Polish talent next year.
Is Kiwior The Right Fit For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Standing at 1.89m, Kiwior can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air and is a solid tackler of the ball as well. He can read the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his side at the back. Kiwior is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back or as a defensive midfielder if his manager asks him to do so.
The Polish sensation usually clears the danger when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from inside his half. Hence, we can expect him to enhance the overall quality of West Ham‘s match-day squad and could help them push for a European place in the Premier League over the next few years.
At 22, Kiwior has got a very bright future ahead of him and is currently making his country proud in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He could go on to become a real success story at the London Stadium. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Hammers manage to recruit him this January or at the end of this campaign.
Kiwior ticks all the right boxes in terms of what David Moyes looks for in his defenders. Therefore, he could be a good fit for the East London club to consider in 2023.
