In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Real Madrid have set their sights on Red Bull Leipzig left-back David Raum. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to secure the services of the German international next year.
Raum’s Decent Numbers In German Football This Season
Raum is having a solid season at the Red Bull Arena and has been responsible for putting in some consistent displays on the left side of Leipzig’s backline. The 24-year-old has made 30 appearances for both club and country during this campaign, picking up three assists in the process across all competitions.
The 14-time German international has been a reliable performer down the left flank based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.0 clearances and 1.1 key passes per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80.6% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
At the moment, Raum is enjoying his football with his nation Germany in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is taking place in Qatar. If he continues to improve as a footballer, Real Madrid should consider moving in for him this January or at the end of this season.
What Will Raum Add To Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti’s Team?
Raum is a decent tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can engineer some meaningful openings for his teammates to find the back of the net. The German sensation primarily operates as a left-back but can also fill in as a left-side wide player or as a right-winger if his manager instructs him to do so.
We can expect someone of Raum’s skillset to add more quality to Carlo Ancelotti‘s defence. Furthermore, he would serve as a good successor to Ferland Mendy at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the long run.
At 24, the German international’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a great option for the Madrid giants to pursue in 2023. He is already good enough to secure a regular starting place at Real Madrid and could even help Los Blancos continue their dominance in Spain and challenge for even more trophies in the coming seasons.
