In a recent report from Manchester Evening News, it was mentioned that Manchester United are targeting Cody Gakpo from PSV. It is understood that Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford has brought forth an immediate need to sign a striker that could replace him and Gakpo could be a brilliant addition to the Red Devils considering they went for him last summer.
Gakpo’s Recent Run Of Form For PSV
Gakpo is having a brilliant campaign with PSV as he has managed to put in a handful of influential displays wide the areas of the field. The 23-year-old has contributed an impressive 12 goals and 14 assists in just 19 matches across all competitions this season.
The Eindhoven-born talent has given a good account of himself in the final third. He has performed exceptionally averaging 3.6 shots, 4.2 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in Eredivisie.
He has even been tidy with his ball distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 76.5% in the Dutch first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Erik Ten Hag Bring Him To Manchester United?
Gakpo is a prolific dribbler with the ball at his feet and he can create a yard of space for himself to find the back of the net. The attacker remains a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can also set up his teammates down the middle. The Netherlands international is primarily a left-winger but can also function as a striker in the middle or on the right flank if needed.
We can expect Gakpo to bring more pace and goals to Ten Hag’s frontline at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are in dire need of a new striker, so the Dutch sensation will be an excellent option for Ten Hag to consider this January.
The PSV forward has been approached by United last summer but the deal collapsed as the Red Devils fell short of the Dutch outfit’s evaluation of their star forward. If Ten Hag wants to sign Gakpo this January, he would have to make a lucrative offer to convince PSV into selling him.
He is also enjoying a good run of form in the World Cup after producing some impressive displays in the attacking third. With all things considered, Ten Hag would be wise to move in for him as he is good enough to play regularly for them in the coming seasons.
