In a recent report, ESPN‘s Mark Ogden stated that Manchester United are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea ace Christian Pulisic this January. It is understood that the Red Devils are hoping to acquire the services of the United States international on loan during the winter transfer period.
Pulisic’s Unimpressive Season In English Football
Pulisic is having a tough campaign at Stamford Bridge as he has struggled to make a positive impact at the West London club. The 24-year-old has just scored one goal and grabbed a couple of assists in 18 matches for the Blues this season across all fronts.
The United States sensation has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.8 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he has been tidy with his ball distribution after making 82.8% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Pulisic is under contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2024. Hence, it makes sense for Man United to sign him on loan before deciding whether to make his move permanent on a cut-price fee next summer.
Is Pulisic A Good Option For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
Pulisic has got decent pace under his belt and can complete some dangerous dribbles in the final third when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. The gifted speedster is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also operate as a left-winger or assume the duties of an attacking midfielder if asked to do so.
The 54-time United States can engineer some decent chances for others around him and is a good striker of the ball as well. However, things have not worked out for him at Chelsea so far this season.
Hence, a short-term loan move to Man United could be a good move for the player if Erik ten Hag is willing to play him regularly in the second half of this campaign.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo‘s exit from the Mancunian club, it makes sense for ten Hag to add more firepower to his attack. A loan for Pulisic could be a good option for the Red Devils to focus on when the transfer commences at the start of next year as he could help the Mancunian giants challenge for a top-four place and maybe even compete for a major trophy next year.
