In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Liverpool are showing interest in recruiting Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong. It has been revealed that the Reds have set their sights on landing the Dutch midfield ace during the January transfer window.
De Jong’s Decent Form In La Liga This Season
De Jong has experienced a solid season at the Nou Camp so far as he has managed to produce some impressive displays at the heart of Xavi’s midfield. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net twice and earned one assist in 17 matches for Barca during this campaign on all fronts.
The Dutch sensation deserves credit for being a consistent performer for Barcelona at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.0 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 90.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Barcelona will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Liverpool will have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about bringing him to Anfield this winter.
Is Frenkie De Jong A Good Option For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
De Jong can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to break the opposition’s rhythm in the game and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a decisive pass in the final third. De Jong is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if told to do so.
The Netherlands international can even make some clever runs in the opponent’s half. Hence, we can expect him to add more energy and dynamism to Jurgen Klopp‘s midfield if Liverpool can devise a way to get him on board next year.
At 25, De Jong’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Reds to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. He has got the experience and skill set to help the Merseyside club challenge for even more trophies in the coming seasons. Thus, Klopp would be wise to engineer a big-money move to secure De Jong’s services in the not-too-distant future.
