In a recent report from Mirror, it was mentioned that Liverpool might lose out on signing Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund next summer. It is understood that the Reds are still in contention for acquiring the teenage prodigy, but the wretched start to this campaign is a cause of major cause for concern as they sit in the ninth position in the Premier League.
Bellingham’s Impressive Run Of Form
Bellingham had a brilliant campaign at Dortmund last season as he was responsible for putting in several influential displays at the centre of the park. The young playmaker scored six goals and created 14 assists over 45 appearances for the German outfit last season across all fronts. He has had a solid start this season, having found the back of the net on seven occasions and creating two assists over 17 appearances in this campaign.
The Stourbridge-born talent has proved his worth being a consistent and reliable performer as he averaged impressive numbers in the 2021/22 season of the Bundesliga. The English midfielder has continued with his great run of form as he is averaging 2.4 shots, 2.4 dribbles, 1.6 interceptions, 3.1 tackles and 1.1 clearances in the German first division so far. He has even maintained a pass completion rate of 81.6% until now in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should The Liverpool Boss Look Elsewhere?
The Merseyside club have had a disappointing start this campaign as they are 15 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal and 13 points below Manchester City who are in the second position. The most recent of which was a devastating 2-1 defeat at the hands of Leeds United. Their recent performances have been way off the mark and Jurgen Klopp‘s hopes of holding the title and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season are slowly diminishing.
Bellingham has immense potential and a player of such calibre would never sign for a team who don’t participate in the European contest. Even if the Reds think of making a lucrative offer to convince Dortmund into selling him they would certainly fall short if they do not qualify for the UCL and secure a top-four finish at the end of this season.
If things do not drastically change at Anfield and the squad keeps performing on sub-par levels then there only remains a bleak chance of acquiring the Dortmund star. So Klopp should also look at alternatives because they will be in dire need of reinforcements in the midfield department.
