In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Leeds United full-back Cody Drameh is on the radar of Newcastle United. It is understood that both the Magpies and Borussia Dortmund are hoping to sign the English defender from the Whites next year.
Drameh’s Growing Frustrations In English Football
Drameh has endured a frustrating campaign at Elland Road as he has struggled to earn regular playing opportunities for the Whites over the past few months. The 20-year-old has only made two senior appearances for the Yorkshire club this season across various competitions.
The London-born talent needs to earn more first-team starts if he wants to develop as a footballer. Thus, a change of scenery could be a good career move for the player next year.
His current contract at Leeds will run out in the summer of 2024. Therefore, Jesse Marsch will have no choice but to cash in on a cut-price deal next summer or risk losing him as a free agent in 2024.
Can Leeds United Head Coach Jesse Marsch Afford To Lose Drameh?
Drameh is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t take too many risks when clearing the danger at the back. Furthermore, the English talent can make some driving runs with the ball down the right flank.
At 20, Drameh has got a very promising future ahead of him as long as he can earn regular playing opportunities at the highest level. He is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a left-back if his manager tells him to do so.
At the moment, things are just not working out for Drameh at Leeds United. With the player set to enter the last year of his playing contract at Elland Road, the Whites have no choice but to consider cutting him loose next summer.
Right now, Drameh has fallen behind Ramsus Kristensen in Jesse Marsch’s pecking order. Hence, he is surplus to requirements at the West Yorkshire club. It doesn’t look like things will improve for the youngster any time soon. Therefore, it is only fair to Drameh if Leeds decide to move him on at the end of this campaign as Marsch can definitely afford to lose him and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his match-day squad.
