In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones hinted that West Ham United are trying to sign Valencia ace Hugo Guillamon. When asked about the Hammers’ interest in the player, Jones said,
“I don’t know too much about this one, but certainly it seems like a player that they will probably be looking for.
“It’s not an obvious one that the top five or six will be looking at, but you can imagine that that situation will change soon if he continues to improve at the rate he’s been improving at. So, I think it’s one to look out for.”
Guillamon’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football This Season
Guillamon has put in a few impressive displays for Valencia during this campaign. He deserves a lot of credit for picking up three assists in 11 matches for the Spanish side this season across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has done well to average 0.7 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.1 crosses and 1.4 key passes per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 83.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Is Guillamon A Good Option For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Guillamon can offer decent protection for his teammates at the back as he is usually quick to react to the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. He is a decent crosser of the ball as well and can set up a few meaningful chances for his teammates in the final third. Guillamon is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a central defender if needed.
The Spanish sensation is a tidy passer of the ball as well but needs to figure out a way to be more productive with his contributions in front of the opponent’s goal.
Guillamon has the skill set and potential to help the Hammers find some consistency in the Premier League. He could offer some healthy competition for Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice at the London Stadium in the coming seasons which makes him a decent option for the London outfit to consider next year.
Therefore, West Ham United head coach David Moyes should think about orchestrating a move to secure the services of the Spanish midfield ace in January or at the end of this campaign. At 22, Guillamon has got a bright future ahead of him and could grow into a real fan-favorite at the East London club in the not-too-distant future.
