Liverpool will welcome Derby County at Anfield on Wednesday night as they look to earn a positive result in the third round of the EFL Cup. The Reds managed to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend which will give them a lot of confidence ahead of this cup clash at home.
Jurgen Klopp will set his team up in a 4-3-3 formation and could make a whole host of changes to his starting XI for this game. Curtis Jones, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay will all get a chance to impress from the start in this cup contest versus the Rams.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Derby County
Defence
Caoimhin Kelleher will feature in between the sticks for the Reds as he looks to impress in the EFL Cup once again this season. Joe Gomez could get an opportunity to play alongside Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence as they try to keep things solid at the back during the 90 minutes.
Calvin Ramsay might get a rare chance to impress at right-back while Kostas Tsimikas hopes to prove his worth on the other side as the left-back. Both of them have to figure out a way to make some good overlapping runs out on the flanks and create some decent chances in the final third.
Ibrahima Konate will be rested on the bench as he provides cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Curtis Jones, Jordan Henderson and Stefan Bajcetic will make up Klopp’s midfield in midweek. All three of them will focus on dominating the flow of the game at the centre of the park and engineer enough clear-cut chances to win this cup game at Anfield.
Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara will be available for selection on the bench as they wait for their opportunity to make an impact in the second half if Klopp decides to call upon their services.
Attack
Fabio Carvalho will get the nod to give a good account of himself on the left flank while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hopes to catch the eye as the right-sided wide player.
Darwin Nunez failed to register a goal versus Spurs but should get an opportunity to impress as a centre-forward in this game.
Roberto Firmino, Harvey Elliott and Mohamed Salah will have to settle for a spot on the bench but might come on in the latter stages of the contest if Liverpool are in need of a goal by then.
