In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Barcelona are prepared to join the race for Borussia Dortmund prospect Youssoufa Moukoko. It has been revealed that the Catalan outfit are ready to enter the chase to secure the services of the German forward.
Moukoko’s Impressive Form At Signal Iduna Park This Season
Moukoko has put in a run of impressive performances as the focal point of Dortmund’s attack during this campaign. The Yaounde-born talent has banged in six goals and picked up six assists in 22 appearances for the German club this season in multiple competitions.
The 18-year-old has caught the eye in the final third by averaging 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 71.2% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
The one-time German international’s current contract at Signal Iduna Park is set to run out at the end of this campaign which could open the door for Barca to seal a move for him on a cut-price deal this January.
Barcelona Ready To Join The Race For Moukoko: Is He A Star In The Making?
Moukoko is a decent dribbler with the ball and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He has even got the eye to play a killer pass in the final third but needs to work on improving his passing accuracy deep inside the opponent’s half. Moukoko is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a secondary striker alongside someone else up top if required.
The German striker has got the potential to be a generational talent. Thus, he would be a great signing for Barcelona to consider this winter or at the end of this campaign.
At 18, Moukoko is already good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp and would add a lot of firepower to Xavi‘s frontline. He could even serve as a perfect, long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, who has entered the final stage of his playing career. However, Xavi will have to figure out a way to improve his link-up play on the attacking third of the field.
Moukoko is definitely a star in the making, so the Catalan giants would be wise to try everything they can to bring him to Spain next year.
