In a recent report, Calciomercatoweb stated that Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is on the radar of Barcelona. It has been claimed that the Catalans are hoping to sign the Brazilian midfield ace from the Villans next year.
Luiz’s Decent Run Of Form In English Football This Season
Luiz is enjoying a solid campaign at Villa Park and has managed to perform at a high level for them in the middle of the park. The 24-year-old has scored two goals and grabbed two assists in 16 matches for the West Midlands club this season across multiple competitions.
The Brazilian talent has been a reliable performer for the Villans based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 0.9 key passes per game in the Premier League. Luiz has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 85.1% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Villa Park is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, the Villans have no immediate need to let him go unless the player gets his head turned by a club of the size of Barcelona.
Douglas Luiz In On The Radar Of Barcelona: What Should Be Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery’s Play?
Luiz can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He usually times his challenges well to secure possession back for his team and has got a knack for creating some decent chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. The Brazilian talent is also an accurate passer of the ball as well but needs to add a few more goals to his game. He mainly operates as a holding midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder if required.
At 24, Luiz has got his best years ahead of him and could grow into a world-class footballer under the stewardship of Aston Villa boss Unai Emery at Villa Park. He is currently one of the first names in the West Midlands club’s team sheet.
Hence, Emery simply cannot afford to let Luiz go next year as he fits into his playing style quite well at the West Midlands club. The Villans would be better off keeping hold of him for the long run as he could help them push for a European spot in the Premier League over the next few years.
