In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Aston Villa are among clubs hoping to land Villarreal winger Nicolas Jackson. It is understood that the Villans could face competition in the form of Barcelona in pursuit of the Senegalese wide player with Villarreal also trying to renew his contract.
Jackson’s Impressive Numbers At The Estadio de la Cerámica
Jackson is having a decent campaign with the Yellow Submarine as he has put in a few eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net on three occasions and grabbed two assists in 21 matches for Villarreal this season across all competitions.
The Banjul-born talent has caught the eye at times with his performances at the Estadio de la Cerámica based on his average of 1.2 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. However, he has been a bit sloppy with his link-up play, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 72.7% in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract with Villarreal is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, the Villans would have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about recruiting him next year.
Is Jackson A Good Option For Aston Villa?
Jackson is proficient at creating space for himself to get a few shots in at goal and can even set up some decent chances for his teammates in and around the opposition penalty area. The Senegalese sensation is a good dribbler with the ball but needs to improve his decision-making in the final third.
We can expect someone of Jackson’s skillset to add more goals and creativity to Unai Emery’s attack at Villa Park. The player already knows the Aston Villa manager well from their time together at Villarreal. Hence, he won’t take any time to settle into his playing style at the West Midlands club.
At 21, Jackson is still quite raw and will only get better with each season. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also play as a left-winger or as a centre-forward if his manager tells him to do so. Therefore, he could be a good, long-term signing for Aston Villa to pull off in January or at the end of this campaign. Furthermore, Jackson has got what it takes to help the Villans push for a European spot in the Premier League over the next few years.
