In a recent column with Caught Offside, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Arsenal are still showing interest in recruiting Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are keen admirers of the Ukraine international and are hoping to land him this winter.
Mudryk’s Decent Numbers For Shakhtar This Season
Mudryk is having an impressive campaign with Shakhtar as he has been responsible for performing at a high level on the left side of their frontline. The promising wing wizard has registered eight goals and eight assists in 16 matches for the Ukrainian outfit this season in all competitions.
The 21-year-old has caught the eye with his performances in Europe based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 1.5 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 81.1% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).
Mudryk is under contract with the Ukrainian club until the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to lure him away to North London during the January transfer window.
Is Mudryk A Good Choice For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Mudryk is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create some promising chances for others around him from the wide areas. He can even shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and has added plenty of goals and assists to his game. Mudryk is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if needed.
The Ukraine international is performing at a high level at the moment and would no doubt enhance the overall quality of Arsenal’s match-day squad if Mikel Arteta can devise a way to get him on board next year.
At 21, Mudryk has got a bright future ahead of him and ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Arteta demands from his wide players. He will also offer some serious competition for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.
We can expect Mudryk to add more goals and assists to the North London club‘s attack and even help them challenge for some major trophies over the next decade. With all things considered, he will be a great, long-term choice for Arsenal to consider when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
