In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Barcelona forward Memphis Depay. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are hoping to land the Dutch forward from Barca next year.
Depay’s Injury Problems At Barcelona Recently
Depay has endured a frustrating campaign at the Nou Camp so far as he has missed a lot of games due to a thigh injury. The Dutch attacker has only made three appearances for the Catalan giants this season, netting one goal in the process on all fronts.
However, the 28-year-old has given a good account of himself by averaging 3.0 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 83.9% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract with Barca will expire at the end of this campaign. Thus, it is only logical for Arsenal to try and land him on a cut-price deal when the transfer window commences in January.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Launch A Move For Depay This January?
Depay can create a yard of space for himself and is proficient at getting a few shots in on-target. He remains a decent dribbler with the ball and doesn’t hesitate to set up a goal-scoring chance for his teammate when they are in a more advantageous position than him in the final third.
The Dutch sensation is primarily a central striker but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if his manager asks him to do so.
Hence, Depay will fit into Mikel Arteta‘s plans quite well at Arsenal. We can expect him to inject more quality into the Gunners‘ frontline. Furthermore, he is well-equipped to serve as an ideal backup to Gabriel Jesus because of his experience at the highest level.
A move to the North London club would also offer Depay a chance to prove his worth in Premier League football once again after his uneventful time at Manchester United back in 2017. The Barcelona outcast has what it takes to help Arsenal challenge for some top honours once again in the coming seasons. Therefore, Arteta would be wise to launch a move for him this winter as he could help the Gunners challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title as long as he can stay injury-free in the next calendar year.
