Real Madrid faced off against Red Bull Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena earlier tonight as they hoped to grab all three points on their travels in the UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 13th minute when Josko Gvardiol found the back of the net. Christopher Nkunku doubled Leipzig’s advantage just five minutes later. However, Vinicius Jr. pulled a goal back in the 44th minute as the Madrid giants went into the half-time interval 2-1 down on the scoreline.
Timo Werner killed the game off when he scored in the 81st minute. Despite Rodrygo’s late consolation from the penalty spot, the contest finished with Carlo Ancelotti’s men crashing to a 3-2 defeat away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player fared during the clash against Red Bull Leipzig.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 6/10
The Belgian keeper made some decent saves at the back but will be disappointed after conceding three goals tonight.
RB: Lucas Vazquez – 6/10
He did his fair share of defending and made one good run with the ball.
CB: Eder Militao – 6/10
Militao impressed at times when defending inside his half but won’t be happy after allowing the opposition three goals during the 90 minutes.
CB: Nacho – 6.5/10
The Spaniard cleared the danger when needed and made two interceptions at the back.
LB: Antonio Rudiger – 5.5/10
Rudiger deserves some credit for filling in as a makeshift left-back. However, his impact on the game was minimal from the left flank.
CM: Eduardo Camavinga – 6.5/10
The French talent made two good runs with the ball but didn’t offer enough protection for his teammates at the back.
CM: Aurelien Tchouameni – 6.5/10
Tchouameni got stuck in with a few solid tackles to make life difficult for Leipzig at the centre of the park. However, he produced a lackluster display in the opponent’s half.
CM: Toni Kroos – 6.5/10
The German talent came back to defend when required but struggled to get a foothold in the game in the Leipzig half.
RW: Marco Asensio – 7/10
He created some inviting chances for others around him and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Rodrygo – 8/10
Rodrygo was a constant menace on the attacking end of the field and scored a late consolation goal for Real Madrid from the penalty spot.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 7.5/10
He scored one goal but could have had a few more with the chances he got. Still, Vinicius Jr. deserves a pat on the back for causing a lot of problems for the Leipzig defenders.
Substitutes:
CB: David Alaba – 6/10
Alaba came on and conceded a goal on his watch.
RB: Dani Carvajal – 6/10
The Spanish sensation offered very little after coming on in the 68th minute.
RW: Eden Hazard – 6/10
He made one key chance in the final third.
