In a recent interview with This is Futbol, journalist Pete O’Rourke urged Newcastle United to land Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk. O’Rourke said,
“It’d be a huge sign of intent if they were to get Mudryk ahead of all these other top clubs across Europe that are chasing him.
“Newcastle are now among those clubs looking at the Ukrainian but I think Shakhtar Donetsk are not very keen to lose him right now.
“So, a deal in January might be hard to do.”
Mudryk’s Decent Run Of Form In European Football This Season
Mudryk is having an impressive campaign with Shakhtar as he has already put in some productive performances for them in the final third. The 21-year-old found the back of the net on two occasions and earned six assists in six matches for his current employers this season on all fronts.
The eight-time Ukraine international has caught the eye with his displays in Europe based on his average of 1.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League. He has even been excellent when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 81% in European football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Mudryk Add To Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe’s Team?
Mudryk is a decent dribbler with the ball and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He has got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a killer pass on the attacking end of the field and can even chip in by scoring some important goals for his team.
At 21, Mudryk has got the potential to become a future star in European football as long as he continues to improve his all-around game with each season.
We can expect Mudryk to add more goals and creativity to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s frontline at St. James’ Park. He is more than capable of challenging Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron for a regular starting spot at the Tyneside club. Therefore, it makes sense for Newcastle United to orchestrate a move to secure the services of the Ukraine international either in January or at the end of this campaign.
Mudryk could even help the Magpies challenge for a European spot in the Premier League over the next few years which makes him an ideal choice for Howe to consider next year.
