Newcastle United locked horns with Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this evening as they looked to earn maximum points on their travels. The Magpies made a good start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 31st minute when Callum Wilson found the back of the net. Miguel Almiron put the Tyneside outfit 2-0 up just nine minutes later when he got his name on the scoresheet with an excellent run and finish. Eddie Howe’s men went into the half-time break with a 2-0 advantage.
Spurs found a way back into the game when Harry Kane scored with a good header in the 54th minute. The match ended with Newcastle securing a narrow 2-1 win at North London.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player fared during the match against Spurs.
GK: Nick Pope – 7/10
The English keeper made a few solid saves at the back and did enough to restrict the opposition to just one goal.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 8.5/10
The English full-back was strong in the air and was solid when defending inside his half. He also had a few lively moments in the final third.
CB: Fabian Schar – 7/10
Schar made a few important clearances on the defensive end of the field and was a threat going forward as well.
CB: Sven Botman – 6.5/10
He won a couple of aerial duels and did what was required of him at the back.
LB: Dan Burn – 6.5/10
Burn performed his defensive duties well but his impact on the game was minimal in the Tottenham half.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 6.5/10
He earned the ball back once and engineered a couple of decent chances in the opponent’s half.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 6.5/10
Guimaraes anchored the midfield with conviction but offered very little in the final third.
CM: Joe Willock – 6/10
He struggled to get a foothold on the game and produced a lackluster display at the centre of the park.
RW: Miguel Almiron – 8/10
Almiron doubled Newcastle’s advantage in the 40th minute with a great run and finish.
ST: Callum Wilson – 7.5/10
Wilson had a few strikes at goal and scored the all-important opener which have Newcastle a platform to go on and snatch the victory.
LW: Joelinton – 7/10
He worked hard defensively but lacked quality on the attacking end of the field.
Substitutes:
RW: Jacob Murphy – 6/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
