In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that Newcastle United are planning to land AC Milan talent Charles De Ketelaere this winter. It has been claimed that the Magpies are hoping to make a €30m offer for the Belgian playmaker during the January transfer window.
De Ketelaere’s Up And Down Season In Italian Football
De Ketelaere is having a campaign of mixed emotions at the San Siro as he has struggled to earn regular playing opportunities for AC Milan recently. The 21-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Italian club this season, picking up one assist and two yellow cards across multiple competitions.
The talented attacker has seen most of his playing time come off the bench but has performed well to average 0.7 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even distributed possession well in the final third after making 76.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
De Ketelaere is under contract at the Milan club until the summer of 2027. Hence, Newcastle United would have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about recruiting him this January.
Is De Ketelaere A Good Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
De Ketelaere can strike the ball well from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the attacking third of the pitch. He can complete a few dangerous dribbles with the ball as well but needs to find a way to be more productive with his contributions up top. The Belgian talent usually plays in the number ten position but can also fill in as a centre-forward or a right-sided wide player if required.
At the moment, De Ketelaere is still trying to settle into life in Milan. However, there is no denying that he has got the quality to succeed under the stewardship of Eddie Howe at St. James’ Park if Newcastle United manage to get a deal over the line for him next month.
At 21, the Belgian sensation will only improve his all-round game in the coming seasons. Hence, he will be a good fit for the Magpies this winter as long as the player can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
We can expect De Ketelaere to add more goals and creativity to Howe’s attack and help the Tyneside club push for a European place over the next few years.
