In a recent interview with Goodison News, Kevin Campbell urged his former club Everton to move in for Napoli winger Hirving Lozano. Campbell said,
“Very direct player, skilful, but he’s (Lozano) not a goalscorer.
“He’s a winger. You need somebody in the middle who can finish, that’s the key.
“It’s not as if Everton don’t create chances. Everton create chances, but they need to take them.
“So would it be a good signing? Yes, it would be, but you’re still going to need a striker.”
Lozano’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
Lozano has made a decent start to his campaign as he has put in some eye-catching performances while acting as a key member of Napoli’s frontline. The 27-year-old has banged in three goals and grabbed one assist in 13 matches for the Naples outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The Mexico City-born talent has caught the eye by averaging 2.4 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution after making only 72.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Lozano Add To Everton Boss Frank Lampard’s Team?
Lozano is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can use his pace to leave his marker to bite the dust out on the wide areas. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a left-winger or operate as a striker down the middle if his manager asks him to do so.
The Mexico international has got the vision to cut open the opposition’s defence with a killer pass in the final third. He can even shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range but needs to find a way to improve his link-up play on the attacking end of the pitch.
Therefore, someone with Lozano’s skillset will be an excellent acquisition for the Toffees as they are in dire need to add more firepower to Frank Lampard‘s attack.
The Napoli star is good enough to help the Merseyside club challenge for a top-half finish in the Premier League in the coming seasons. At 27, he is playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an immediate impact at Goodison Park if Everton decide to listen to Kevin Campbell’s advice by moving in for the talented wide player next year.
