According to the Mirror, Barcelona are eyeing a move for Diogo Dalot from Manchester United as Xavi deems him a priority transfer target amid intensifying pressure. The Portuguese full-back’s contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of this season and the Barca boss is keen on bringing him to Camp Nou after his recent displays.
Dalot’s Impressive Run Of Form For Man Utd
Dalot has had a brilliant start to this campaign as he has put in a few influential displays in the defensive third of the pitch. He does not have impressive numbers to boast in the offence as he has only contributed to one goal by setting up his teammate from the wide areas over 13 appearances across all fronts.
However, the Braga-born talent has been reliable and consistent at the back after averaging 1.6 key passes, 2.1 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game in the Premier League.
Furthermore, he has also been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 78.1 % of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
What Could He Bring To Barcelona?
Dalot has a solid presence at the back; as he can easily track back and time his tackles well to stop the opposition in their tracks. He can make some clever interceptions and win the ball back for his side. Furthermore, the Portuguese right-back can make some dangerous runs down the flank and provide support from the wide areas.
The 23-year-old excels at holding on to the ball and playing his way out from the back as he can efficiently distribute possession to his teammates. He could certainly add more depth to that position at Barcelona. Sergi Roberto is having a poor run of form and Alejandro Balde lacks the experience to play at a high level so Dalot would be a brilliant addition to the squad.
Xavi has done well to identify him as a priority target but the Catalan club’s boss would have to make a lucrative offer in order to convince the Red Devils into selling him.
